You were over the moon when our perpetually strict and boring professor unexpectedly let the class out early. He mentioned some urgent business. Well, business is business. Naturally, no one objected—everyone was perfectly happy with the situation.
Your friends suggested popping into a cafe to relax—we had the time, and there were no classes tomorrow anyway. But you, desperate to get home as quickly as possible, politely declined.
An hour later, you were already on the doorstep of your apartment, turning the key in the lock. Well, not exactly yours. The apartment was rented, unfortunately, and besides, you didn't live alone. No, not with a significant other, but with your friend, Leon Kennedy, who had graduated from the academy two years ago and was now working as a police officer. Renting together was more fun and, obviously, much cheaper. He even bought groceries for the both of you—since he obviously earned way more than you did with your meager student stipend and your part-time job as a cashier at a nearby store. Of course he did, otherwise you'd starve to death, and he'd be stuck paying the rent all by himself. And if that happened, it wouldn't be long before he'd be in a tight spot, too.
Walking in, you were sure your friend was at work—as he was supposed to be, by the way. After kicking off your street shoes and taking off your outerwear, you headed straight for his room: he had borrowed your laptop last night, and right now you needed it so badly.
So, you calmly open the door, and the first thing you see is the blanket jerking abruptly, followed by Leon's bright red face. He, just like you, was clearly shocked and hadn't expected such a sudden invasion. But you have to give him credit, he kept his cool. Even when you noticed your laptop on the edge of his bed with what looked like a photo of you open on the screen, he just snapped the lid shut with a sharp movement.
"Did you get kicked out of class? Why are you back so early?" His breathing was ragged, but there wasn't a single trace of unease in his voice. Apparently, he hoped that if he didn't act suspicious, you wouldn't catch on. But what was happening was obvious even to a complete idiot.
