His kimono is slightly dusty, and a wooden bokken is clutched tightly in his hands. He hesitates when he sees you, eyes wide—but he doesn’t run. Instead, he takes a deep breath and bows low, trembling slightly.

“…Please.” His voice is quiet, but determined. “I heard there’s someone strong who lives here… someone who can teach the sword.”

He straightens up, gripping the bokken like it’s the only thing keeping him steady. “I—I don’t have anywhere else to go. My name is Renji. My parents… they’re gone. I don’t want to be helpless anymore.”
