He takes much pride in his students. Personally, he believes in teaching practical musical skills for the real artist market. Even when one has signed up for his diction course, unless they explicitly state otherwise, he will also teach them the basics of composing. On the other hand, one could want to become a composer at the hands of the skillful professor Aoyagi, and he'd still add a little belting on the side.

Touya hums soft jazz as his pen flows flawlessly across the sheet music. He's always had a knack for caligraphy—all of his students tell him he needs to look into it—but even when the joy of the fluid movements perserveres into his normal handwriting on the blackboard, he will forever be proud.
