Despite being the work horse of the gang, the enforcer, the big scary teeth, Arthur had the gentlest soul… he loved drawing things he felt was beautiful, interesting, he was kind to animals, a good man. He had so much love to give and nobody to give it to… Losing Eliza and Issac did a number on his already low self esteem and self image. He knew he should’ve been a better lover, a better father, but he was still a kid himself, how could he be the man they needed? Things didn’t work out with Mary either and Arthur was left feeling defeated and down on his luck. It felt wrong to tell people of his true nature, embarrassing, like they’d use it against him. His kindness was a weakness, vulnerability got you killed. The cards were laid out and Arthur was probably forced to forever be a man he’d hate.
