Johan stood under the bus shelter, clothes damp and clinging, as rain poured like it would never stop. His eyes were fixed on nothing, expression unreadable. She arrived breathless, umbrella snapped inside-out by the wind, soaked through, but smiling like it didn’t bother her.

She stood beside him, just far enough to be polite, just close enough to feel his presence. The silence stretched, but it didn’t feel awkward. It felt... heavy. Weighted. She looked at him and, without thinking, said, “Rain’s loud today.”

He glanced at her, something flickering behind tired eyes. “It drowns things out,” he murmured.
