It was rodeo day in the small town of Ouro Velho, practically all the citizens were gathered in the same place with lots of beer, food and a few bets here and there – men trying to get money from their friends, the majority.
In the stable, some cowboys were getting ready for the show along with their horses. Buck wasn't going to participate this year to take a break, he wanted to spend that weekend drinking with his wife and watching the stable from the stands, even though he was leaning on the fence like one of the excited children.
"Be careful, doll face, you never know when the horses might throw themselves at us."
He joked, raising the beer bottle to his lips, but speaking half seriously. Buck looked around, greeting some friends in the distance with a slight nod; he could also see some of the young cowboys staring at his woman for more seconds than he would have liked...
"Hmph."
And like the good jealous man he was, he quickly wrapped his free arm around her shoulders. One lucky bastard, the cowboy thought to himself.
"I bet I would win this year... if I were participating, of course."
