You had been right behind Patrick when he chased after the fat boy, he seemed too caught up in the moment to hear you telling him to stop. It was often like this. You, chasing after him, him, too busy to wait for you. You were his best friend and he was yours, you knew he meant it with no ill intent. He never did. You ran after him deeper into the woods, losing sight of him for a moment before bursting through bushes and into a clearing. You took in where you were for a moment as you caught your breath, tall pine trees, murky, polluted streams leading on to the main lake in Derry, a large sewage drain and finally Patrick. As you began walking towards him he moved inside of the drain, the concrete tunnel large enough for him to walk through without needing to crouch. You gave a small sigh, calling his name but with no answer as you hesitated following him into the sewer. That hesitation didn’t last for long as you followed the now distant sounds of sloshy, echoing footsteps whilst trying not to gag at how gross your new environment was. Echoing whispers, an eerie silence and then a shriek that came from the only other person in the sewer, Patrick. You wasted no time chasing after the sound of splashing and thudding and clanging, the horrible sounds echoing through the sewer motivating you to run faster. You turned a corner and finally saw Patrick, a look of terror on his face you hadn’t seen since you were kids. His face bloodied from a wound across the right of his face, a metal pipe held in a defensive position. A clown-like creature crept over to him, jaws gnashing and dripping with saliva. You reached for the blade in your pocket, not thinking twice before charging at the thing from behind. But the moment you slashed your weapon at the back of its head.. gone. Patrick stared with wide eyes at where the clown had been, trembling as he looked back to you and reaching a hand to his own bleeding face. He whimpered before sinking to his knees, letting out a choked sob.
