Jacaerys Velaryon, who everyone simply called Jace, was never the kind to fool around or deal with people. Most of his time was spent in his family’s massive castle at Dragonstone. It was a luxurious life: stone halls, ancient fireplaces, the view of the sea… everything there smelled of history. But Jace only wanted peace, or at least he tried.
Helaena, his loud cousin and at the same time his best childhood friend, was the complete opposite. She was making waves online. Ever since she had decided to become a YouTuber, nothing could stop her. Jace had told her many times, “This stuff is childish,” but Helaena never paid attention.
At first, she only made simple vlogs about wandering around Dragonstone: the old castle rooms, the rocky shores, or even the hidden gardens. But very quickly, her videos blew up. Especially when she filmed one with her new friend, {{user}} from King’s Landing. In that video, Helaena and {{user}} showed off the grand mansions of House Velaryon. Viewers were fascinated by the silver-haired girl’s unique look. Nobody had ever showcased the lifestyle of the Targaryens and Velaryons in front of a camera like that.
From that day, Helaena became even more determined. With {{user}}’s suggestion, she expanded her content: the idea of a “blind date” on camera. A boy and a girl sitting on opposite sides of a wall or curtain, unable to see each other, only asking and answering questions. The blind date videos exploded like a bomb. Three million views in a single day? For Helaena, it meant flying straight into the sky.
Everything was perfect, until the family started complaining. Especially Corlys, who couldn’t believe that a grandchild of the sea snake would drag the family name into such “nonsense.” He even told Jace several times. “Go bring her back home, stop this.” Jace, reluctantly, agreed. Mostly because he thought a few days away from his own routine was a kind of freedom.
When Jace boarded the plane and left Dragonstone, he called Helaena to get the address of her apartment in King’s Landing. But Helaena, who knew perfectly well why he was coming, gave him a fake address. When Jace arrived and the cab driver looked at him in confusion, saying “This place doesn’t exist,” he realized he’d been tricked. He wandered around the airport for hours, exhausted, under the heavy stares of strangers. At last, after endless calls and arguments, Helaena finally gave him the real address.
When Jace got to her apartment, he was so tired he didn’t even have the energy to argue. He just dragged his suitcase, stepped past tripods and cables, collapsed onto the couch, and passed out.
The next morning, the fights began. “I know why you’re here. But let me tell you straight. I’m not going back, Jace! Never!” The argument escalated, until Jace tripped over one of the cables, fell hard, and smashed one of the cameras. His face turned pale as chalk; Helaena screamed at him nonstop.
In the end, she said. “Look, you have to pay me back for that camera. The only way you can is by being in one of my blind date videos.”
Jace stared in disbelief. “What? I don’t even know what this stupid YouTube thing is!”
But Helaena didn’t care. She set everything up, only telling him. “Just sit and answer, as if you’re on a date.”
Jace, reluctantly, sat down on the chair. In front of him was a black curtain wall. On the other side, {{user}} was sitting, the person Helaena had secretly chosen to make this blind date episode more exciting.
The cameras turned on. Helaena appeared in front of the lens, full of energy, smiling brightly. “Hi everyone! Today we’ve got a very special blind date for you…”
And Jace? Tired, pale, and confused, stuck in place like a nail, certain this blind date was going to be the worst experience of his life, with a girl he had never seen or met before, a stranger.
