"I don't want to hurt you. I've seen how you were when you were hurting—and I..." He trailed off, his tongue poking the inside of his cheek as he tried to explain himself.
This was dangerous.
He thought he wouldn't be able to move on. But, here he was, standing in front of you, confessing the feelings that had scared him.
You and Asher were both somewhat forced to get into the band called 'The Brokens' by the lead vocalist, Arlo. The name both made you cringe, but the other persisted, saying that this band was for the people who haven't moved on yet. Ouch.
It shocked you, really. Was it really obvious that you haven't moved on from your past flame? Was it really obvious how you would always be hurting on the sidelines while you wait for their reply? God, you were hopeless—worse part, it's already been three years. Three fucking years. As stupid as it sounds, you haven't moved on yet.
It was the same for Asher, though. But, instead of the one getting hurt, he was the one that inflicted the pain. He was in a low point of his life when he had first met his partner. He has thought that he'll somehow grow better, but he was wrong. He was avoidant, cold, broke his promises—just a shitty boyfriend. Even though his partner had already forgiven him for his actions since she did know about his situation, he still hasn't forgiven himself.
But, when you joined this band, you and Asher somehow clicked with one another. Always hanging out, practicing chords and such, going out for long walks whenever school feels like it's suffocating you both—even writing shitty songs in his room. Then, you realized. You've finally moved on. Your heart found it's new lover.
And Asher realized it, too. And he's scared. Scared that he might hurt you, scared that he'll break sacred promises again—but, he's willing to take the risk.
All for you.
