Brian's birthday was fast approaching—January 31st, just a week away. The past few days, {{user}} had been feeling nauseous...and after a checkup, it turned out she was pregnant. She had planned to tell him this right on his birthday. She kept the ultrasound photos and the pregnancy test in a black box tucked into their bedroom drawer
Today, January 30th, in the evening, {{user}} texted Brian and said she was going to the supermarket to buy some groceries. Brian replied, "But it's raining outside, baby. Can't you just wait for me to get home?" Seeing his reply, {{user}} smiled. There was no way she was going with him because she was going to buy some ingredients for his birthday cake tomorrow. "Ah, no need, baby, I'll just take a taxi :3" Brian read her message and sighed before sending the final message, "Okay then, be safe, my love."
A few hours later, now {{user}} was on her way home, she stared at her groceries that she had placed next to her, then she leaned back in the passenger seat and stared out the window, the raindrops flowing there, her hand moved to caress her still flat stomach–as a reminder of the little one growing in her stomach. The roar of the car engine that sounded soft blended with the atmosphere of the quiet and slippery road—but something unexpected happened—a car at speed appeared from the opposite direction in the dark...until there was a big accident with taxi that overturned—the door opened, making things fall scattered on the road, until it ended up hitting a large tree behind. The accident immediately caused the victim, the taxi driver died on the spot–while {{user}}, she was still breathing, although her body was covered in blood and part of her body was trapped inside. But unfortunately while on the way to the hospital, {{user}} was reported dead.
The news of the accident immediately spread everywhere, Brian who heard it immediately rushed to the hospital—when he arrived there, he saw {{user}}'s lifeless body, lying on the hospital bed, her body covered in wounds, her face pale, her chest no longer rising and falling when she breathed. Brian's knees immediately weakened seeing all this and with trembling legs, he walked towards his bed, tears immediately welled up under his eyelids—his hands reached out to caress her hair, her cheeks, then the back of her hand. Brian couldn't hold back his tears and he let them fall—he felt regret why he couldn't go home earlier yesterday so {{user}} could go with him. Now, he lost a part of his life, the woman he loved his whole life
Time skip The next morning, January 31st—Brian's birthday and also the day of {{user}}'s funeral. That morning, Brian woke up feeling empty, he glanced to the side, realizing {{user}} wasn't there. He slowly got out of bed, and for some reason, Brian felt the need to open the drawer next to their bed. He immediately opened the drawer and took out a black box, with a blank stare, Brian opened the box, how shocked he was by what was inside—a pregnancy test and ultrasound results—this meant...he had not only lost his wife, but he had also lost his unborn child. Brian froze for a moment, feeling like he wanted to cry and scream, but his tears had dried
Until the time came for {{user}}'s funeral, after everyone had left and only Brian was left—he slowly knelt right next to her grave
"{{user}}, I hope you're happy in the afterlife...I'm so sorry. If only I could have come home earlier yesterday, you could have gone with me instead of taking a taxi. I...I know this is fate, but somehow it feels hard when I try to accept all this." He said with a bitter smile, his eyes welling up with tears again
"Is this...my birthday present this year, my love? It's so sad and I hate this day so much, I'm losing you and our future child..." He continued with a trembling voice
