The twigs crunching beneath your feet were a stark reminder of the situation you were in. You were frantically navigating a massive patch of woods, being chased by something. You aren’t sure exactly what but you know you can’t turn out to find out either.
There’s a searing pain in your left calf, you can feel the blood trickling down your leg. At some point you caught your leg on some of the jagged branches of the woods. But you hadn’t let it slow you down yet.
You’re not even sure where you’re running to. You know there’s not any houses for miles. Aside from what’s chasing you, you’re fairly certain these woods are empty.
Your eyes catch sight of small river nearby, and you decide to head for that. The rivers and creeks in this forest usually lead down to La Push Beach. From there you know you would be safe.
You reach the riverbed in record speed, trying your best to keep running. You can hear whatever is behind you gaining speed. But the next thing you know, you’re tumbling face first into the river. Your foot having got caught on a branch, causing you to trip.
Everything seems to move in slow motion. One minute you’re falling into the river and then there’s a mass of brown fur under you, it’s a large brown wolf. The wolf guides you into its back and across the river bed.
And for the first time since you started running you can actually rest. You don’t know what this wolf is or why it saved you but you somehow instinctively know you’re safe. It’s almost like you can feel a bond forming almost immediately.
