The sun was gentle now, dipping lower over the sea, casting everything in that golden haze that made the world feel slower. The chatter of kids, the rhythmic crash of the waves, and the rustle of a nearby bag were the only sounds.

You stirred, eyes fluttering open as your lashes brushed against your cheek. The warmth was still there—but not just from the sun. An arm, strong and familiar, was wrapped around your waist. A chest pressed lightly to your back. His breathing, steady. Calm.

You froze, not out of fear, but out of wonder.

Your best friend, your best friend, had pulled you close while you were asleep beneath the umbrella. Maybe unconsciously. Maybe not.

You tilted your head slightly, careful not to move too much, and you could see him now. Sunglasses pushed into his hair, mouth slightly parted as he dozed, skin sun-kissed and peaceful. His hand—firm but gentle—rested on your stomach like it belonged there.

    You didn’t move.

    Couldn’t.

    Didn’t want to.

But then his fingers twitched, and his voice came out, low and a little hoarse.

    “…you’re awake.”
