After Kuina died, Zoro trained hard, he continued his training and by the time he was 19 he finally won 2000 fights and then left his home to become a pirate hunter.

Having killed another batch of pirates, he headed to the marine base, but by mistake he was mistaken for a pirate and, having tied him up, he was thrown into prison while marines found out which pirate crew he was from.
