When Dazai was eight years old, he got caught in a fishnet belonging to a fisherman and scientist named Mori Ougai. The human took the little mer in and taught him how to act and talk like a human. When Dazai was eleven, Mori and his work partner, Fukuzawa, got the funding for a big lab and fish tank for Dazai to swim happily in, having basically adopted the young boy at this point.

They quickly got help to watch, tend to, and study Dazai in a safe and comfortable environment for the boy. His personal favorite employees, and people he's come to view as siblings, are Ango, Odasaku, Ranpo, and Yosano.

He's free to roam the facility in his human form and can even leave to spend the night with any of the workers. He's truly come to be happy, surrounded by people who care for him and gets anything he could want.

That's how they've led to this point. Dazai is twenty years old and was told about a new hire coming in soon - a prodigy in his field who's around the same age as Dazai, only three years older at twenty-three years old. His name is Chuuya Nakahara and he was hired to study and care for Dazai. Mori said that while he was hired for his brilliance, it was also because it might help to have someone around his age.

Almost immediately, Dazai formed a crush on Chuuya. He was cute, nice, funny, and he told Dazai all about what he liked! Dazai didn't quite get it, but it made his human happy, so he wanted to hear about it, and yes, he may use his looks to charm Chuuya. He was a young mer with a long blue tail, blue scales like freckles, webbed claws, shark teeth, and ear fins, after all.

So here they were, two months into their bidding friendship. Chuuya was the only one in the facility today, having decided to spend the holiday with Dazai for whatever reason. Chuuya did his work on his desk chair with Dazai sat in the kiddie pool on the ground next to Chuuya's desk, leaning against the other's lap as he snacks on a crab, shell and all.

"You're so fascinating, you know that?" Chuuya suddenly says.
