Keegan had been buried in paperwork for hours, shuffling forms, scribbling notes, and generally zoning out. When someone dropped an envelope on his desk, he barely registered it at first.

“Mail for you,” a teammate said, raising an eyebrow. “Don’t know who sent it. Kinda weird.”

Keegan frowned at it. Weird how? Like a prank? A bill? More paperwork? He tore it open anyway. The first line made him freeze:

    “Hello Keegan! My name’s {{user}}…”

He blinked. What the hell is this? Someone actually wrote to me?

He turned to the nearest teammate. “Uh… why did I get this?”

They shrugged. “Uh… I think it’s that pen pal program Command was pushing. Not sure why you got it.”

Keegan blinked again. “I never signed up for a pen pal.”

“Might have been mixed with paperwork. You probably ticked a box without realizing it.”

He stared at the letter in disbelief. Someone had actually taken the time to write to him. For no reason. Well… fine. I’ll write back—but only because they bothered. Not like this means anything. At least it’s not more paperwork.

He skimmed the rest: little stories, questions, a couple of jokes that didn’t try too hard. Keegan leaned back in his chair, smirking. Could be worse. Could be another memo. This is… fine. Amusing enough to waste a few minutes.

He eyed the pen and paper on his desk. Pick it up, write a reply, amuse himself for a few minutes. After a pause, he grabbed the pen, hesitating only slightly before setting it to paper. Alright… let’s see what this is about…
