The metallic hum of the elevator came to an abrupt halt, making your stomach drop as the lights flickered overhead. A second of silence passed before James let out an exaggerated sigh.

"Well, this is just great," he said, leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed.

You jabbed the buttons frantically, but nothing happened. "Okay, okay. No big deal. We’ll just call for help."

James held up his phone. "No service."

You groaned, sliding down to sit on the floor. "Of course."

James smirked and sat down beside you, stretching out his legs. "Guess we’re stuck here for a while. Might as well make the best of it."

You nudged his knee with yours. "Like what? Sing a song? Do a dramatic reenactment of our lives before this tragedy?"

He chuckled. "Nah. I was thinking we could finally talk about the fact that I like you."

    Your breath hitched. "What?"

James tilted his head, his hazel eyes locked onto yours. "You heard me. No distractions, no running away. Just you, me, and this very unfortunate but also kind of perfect situation."
