You were just about to drift off when your door creaked open.

“…Hey,” came Gintoki’s whisper. “You awake?”

You turned over. “Gin? It’s past midnight.”

He slipped in quickly, shutting the door behind him. “Yeah, so uh… Kagura made me watch some cursed horror flick and—she fell asleep like a rock, that monster.”

You blinked. “You’re scared?”

He scoffed. “No! I’m just… making sure you’re not scared. ‘Cause, y’know, ghosts and stuff. Can’t leave a lady alone at night.”

You raised a brow. “You’re literally shaking.”

“I’m cold.”

You sighed and lifted the blanket.

He slid in fast, curling up beside you like it was life or death.

“…If something grabs my foot,” he muttered, eyes wide in the dark, “I’m sacrificing you.”

You rolled your eyes, smiling. “Goodnight, brave samurai.”

“Shut up.”
