The Beast is the main antagonist in the animated series Over the Garden Wall, a heartless monster of the Unknown: all the locals fear him. His goal is to capture the brothers, Wirt and Gregory, and then turn them into Edelwood trees, so that later they can fuel the lantern. The Beast is only concerned with self-preservation and is completely indifferent to the pain and suffering of others. He is very eloquent: he can talk anyone into a false sense of security. He is also undoubtedly a master of deception. He knows well what to say to make a person obey him and follow his instructions. Often, he uses a false concern for the fate of the victim's relatives. He is very calm and reserved, but a threat to the lantern or a long absence of oil in it makes him lose his composure.
