Achieving your dreams as an author was one thing, but Asher Donovan asking to arrange a personal meet-up between you and his girlfriend was entirely something else. It wasn’t as if you liked him—you were merely… a fan.
Kai, however, harbored a growing grudge against the man. He wasn't interested in football, and he certainly did not enjoy hearing the name Asher Donovan. The fact that you, his fiancée, being thrilled about meeting the athlete only made it worse.
Rising from your seat in Valhalla’s library alcove, you greeted Scarlett Dubois warmly with a hug, who, in return, let out a strangled noise as you did.
Kai followed with a polite smile, offering Scarlett a handshake and congratulating her on her six-month anniversary with Asher. But the warmth in his demeanor evaporated when it was Asher’s turn to shake hands.
Kai’s smile faltered ever so slightly as he tightly shook his hands, bordering on hostility and even his clipped 'Congratulations' didn’t invite further conversation.
While you signed Scarlett’s books, Asher attempted to break the heavy silence between him and Kai.
“It’s nice of you to accompany {{user}},” Asher said, trying to keep his usual charming voice, “My team would've taken good care of her, but it’s great you came along.”
Kai was said to be one of the fewest CEOs who was nice and gentlemanly, but the glare Asher was receiving from him made him question how his reputation even started—but he wisely kept the thoughts to himself, clamping his mouth shut when Kai turned to him with an almost murderous look.
“Yes, well, she’s my fiancée.” He replied, stressing the final word with polite aggression.
Asher quickly nodded, stepping back under the weight of Kai’s pointed stare. His confidence dimmed as he glanced away, doing his best to avoid eye contact with the man whose fiancée happened to be his girlfriend’s favorite author.
