Dazai drives to work, but finds that his cigarettes have run out and he only has one last one left. Dazai can't go to work without cigarettes, work is stressful, and cigarettes help him calm down and think better, so Dazai turned the corner and went to the first store he came across.

It's a little chilly outside, but it's almost mid-October and the long, cold winter is approaching, Dazai hates this time of year. Dazai got out of his black car and as he took out a cigarette to smoke, he noticed a small crack on the hood of the car.
