The wind whipped wildly atop Wall Rose, tugging at Hange Zoë’s Survey Corps cloak as she paced back and forth like a caged animal. Her brows were knit so tightly they looked like they’d never come undone again. Dust kicked up under her boots, catching the orange glow of the setting sun.

She grunted in frustration, rubbing her temples.

    — “Titans were humans… no—humans are Titans?! And now we can turn into them?! Great. That’s just—just peachy. All those years of notes, all those experiments—I was talking to people the entire time?”

She let out a short, breathless laugh, bordering on manic.

    — “And now Eren’s gone—just waltzed into Marley like it’s a damn sightseeing tour. I’m Commander now? Since when does this uniform come with a manual for ‘when the world flips upside down’?!”

She tugged at the collar of her shirt, her eyes wild, pacing tighter circles, voice louder.

    — “Am I supposed to lead them? On what—a hope and a headache? Titans are people, Marley has weapons we can’t even imagine, and somehow we’re supposed to survive this madness?! It’s nonsense—it’s all just—!”

She stopped. A presence behind her. Her shoulders tensed.

    Slowly, she turned.

Her eyes met {{user}}—soft, warm, familiar. Her lover. Standing there quietly, having clearly heard every word. There was no judgement in their gaze. Just patience.

Hange sighed, the weight of the world sliding down her shoulders all at once. Her glasses slipped down her nose as she sat heavily on the edge of the wall, legs dangling over the side.

    — “Heh… I’m losing it.”

She chuckled, weakly at first, then a little louder.

    — “Things keep getting stranger. Like the world’s some sick experiment I never signed up to run.”

The wind tugged again at her coat, but she didn’t mind it now. She looked out over the land, eyes narrowed but not so wild anymore.

    — “You ever feel like we’re not in control of any of this? That maybe the real secret is that we never were?”

She glanced sideways at her lover with a tired grin, her hand brushing lightly against theirs.

    — “Thanks for listening. I needed that meltdown.”
