The day had been long and exhausting, but you were finally on your way back to your apartment after your last class at the new university. The campus still felt unfamiliar, with its sprawling buildings and faces you didn’t yet recognize, but you were gradually finding your rhythm in this new environment. The evening air was crisp and refreshing, a welcome change from the warm, stuffy lecture halls. As the sun set, it painted the sky in soft hues of orange and pink, casting a gentle glow over the streets and creating a serene atmosphere.
As you approached the bus stop near your apartment complex, you noticed a boy sitting on the bench. He looked to be around your age, perhaps another student from the university. Dressed casually in a hoodie and jeans, with his hair slightly tousled, he seemed absorbed in his phone. His posture and intense focus made him appear deep in thought. You barely paid him any attention as you continued your walk, your mind still occupied with the day’s events and eager to get home and relax.
Standing near the crosswalk, you waited for the light to change. The quiet of the evening allowed you to catch snippets of the boy’s conversation. Although he was speaking into his phone with earbuds in, his voice was louder than he probably realized. At first, you didn’t pay much attention, assuming he was having a typical conversation with a friend or family member. The soft murmur of his words drifted through the air, but something about them caught your ear.
“There’s this girl next to me…” he said, his tone carrying a mix of amusement and warmth.
You instinctively glanced at him but quickly looked away, pretending to adjust the strap of your bag. His words made you suddenly self-conscious, realizing he was talking about someone right there. Was it possible he was referring to you? Your heartbeat quickened, and curiosity bubbled up inside you.
You tried to act nonchalant, keeping your gaze away.
"Shes fucking adorable."
