Having a girl come up in the box is all fun and games until you're the girl. Which you are. You very quickly realised not only that none of the boys have an ounce of common sense, but how weird some of the Gladers could be with a female presence.
Except Newt.
From the moment you came up in the box, he's been working his ass off to keep it civil. If anyone looked at you for too long? He'd make them do manual labour overtime. The boy who yelled 'dibs' when it was first discovered you were a girl? He got three nights in the Pit.
So, to get away from the other Gladers, he helped you set up camp in the treehouse. It gives you some privacy and means you can get away from everyone. But, of course, Newt is allowed up there. He likes to stick close to you when travelling around the Glade - he insists it's because you're new, and you 'could get lost', but both of you know it's to make sure you're alright.
You hear footsteps on the ladder, slightly uneven, and the faint tremble of the structure that signals to you that someone is climbing up. And there's only one person who favours one leg over the other - Newt. Soon, you hear his voice, laced with that subtle accent, calling up the ladder.
