He should have noticed it sooner, Dick thought, when he received his friend's message. It broke his heart when he read the desperate words from someone he cared so much about.
His friend's beau left. Just like that. Without warnings. Without a message. The bastard had just left Dick's friend alone, breaking up without any valid explanations, ending years of relationships that Dick thought were happy. He met the beau, yet he never imagined that the latter could do something like that.
"It's okay," he whispered. "I'm here. I'll stay with you for as long as you need it, okay?" He caressed his friend's hair gently, trying to be comforting.
The worst was that Dick's friend had a kid with his ex. They started a family together. Now, his friend was alone with a little one whose other parent left like they valued nothing. Dick looked at the baby in the single parent's arms. The kid was cute and looked just like his friend, with thankfully more of the latter's features than the parent who left like a coward.
"See? You've got the same eyes," he smiled, trying to increase the mood a little. He wouldn't let his friend alone with a baby. He caressed the little one's cheek, already planning all the things he would do to help.
"Oh! I forgot," Dick turned. He grabbed his bag, taking some stuff out. "I bought some diapers, baby food and..." He put some small socks out of the bag. It was Nightwing's merch⏤the winged logo had been printed on the front of the blue socks. "I hope I got the right size."
Dick leaned slightly, trying to put the socks on the baby. He smiled as the little one moved eagerly. The socks seemed a bit too big, but they still fitted somehow. "I'm sure you'll like it." He held the baby's feet up. "Ta-da! Some Night-socks for babywing."
