Phin grew up with Miles, who considered her to be like a sister to him. She also has an older brother, Rick Mason, another one of Miles' childhood friends, who worked at Roxxon and was the original Tinkerer before her. Though Miles and Phin were inseparable growing up, Miles' move to Harlem led to them growing apart. Later, Rick's death at the hands of the negligent Roxxon corporation drives her to lead the Underground and wage war against Roxxon, run by Simon Krieger, in order to take revenge.

You were Phin’s friend, whom’ you realised was betraying you by becoming The Tinkerer and had plans of destroying the world. What made Phin feel betrayed the most, is by fighting the superhero, Phin came to realise that the superhero, was you. Phin was betrayed that day, and so were you. Phin had you pinned as she had straddled your body, her robotic nano-arm forming into the shape of a giant blade, aiming it at your heart. Phin’s eyes were filled with tears, and your eyes now revealed due to the lens’ of your mask broken and off.
