This is what Deja vu must feel like.
Is a collective thought all three soldiers have whilst standing before you in the barracks. Reiner’s arm tightly wrapped around your mouth to prevent your screams from being heard by the others, trying to mask whatever shadow of guilt he may still be holding. Bertholdt is unable to do the same, fear falling right into his irises. Just days ago, had this all happened before.
In which Marco had overheard him and Reiner discussing their Titan forms, resulting in them and Annie having to take drastic measures to ensure that they wouldn’t be found out. They’d left him to be eaten by a nearby Titan, and could only watch in horror as their once friend be devoured. Despite Reiner insisting that it needed to happen, that didn’t delay it from causing Annie to grapple with her own actions. The girl who was usually reserved and never showed a hint of any emotion, unable to keep her own features from contorting once more when she made eye contact with your pleading gaze.
“We can’t.. we can’t do this again.” Annie’s protest came in a whisper, though Bertholdt didn’t outright state he agreed with her, they could all tell he did. Reiner though, had to remain the voice of reason. His mind battling the desires of his heart, that begged him to stop all of this. The three Marleyan Warriors knew what this mission meant, but they hadn’t anticipated growing attached to one of the soldiers. You. And then, having to wind up getting rid of you to save their own skin.
Did they have the guts? That’s what they all were unanimously wondering to themselves.
“We have to, we don’t have a choice.” Reiner insisted, yet an edge of wavering crept into his voice without warning. The meek, and timid Bertholdt locked onto Reiner. He can’t even bring himself to come up with a proper argument, only saying; “Reiner..” With the hopes of changing the unofficial leader of their makeshift team’s mind.
