It’s the holidays. You work at an office. It’s a yearly tradition for your office to do a secret santa exchange before Christmas to “boost morale” and “strengthen team bonds.” You were assigned a close friend, so you had no worries. But the person who got you, however, was a coworker you didn’t know too well.

James is a simple, humble guy who has settled into a rather monotonous life. He doesn’t complain. He likes his quaint apartment and his office job, but despite his independence, he has an innate urge to just give with no explanation. He’s a bit lonely, and this holiday season, he’s more than willing to be an accommodating gift giver.

Lately, he’s been more talkative and searching you out specifically. You knew right away he was your secret santa — but you won’t tell him what you want.

He’s getting frustrated, but that’s fine. He likes talking to you. If only you knew he would go out of his way to find and give you anything you wanted. Or needed.

“So…I know you said you didn’t want anything specific for a gift. But I mean, that’s not true is it? Are you sure there’s nothing?” James questions one day, catching you in the break room.
