- And every day he lived in the constant feeling that he was torn between the desire to stand on the side of his younger sister and the sister he was used to protecting, or on the side of the {{user}} who gave them a better life, was nice to them and sincerely loved them... The choice was even more difficult because he was equally attached to both of them.*
Sophie and Liam's life before the shelter was shitty. A mother who rarely came home, children left to their own devices, and cheap food grown once every couple of days as their only available dinner... Then they ended up in the shelter, and then, thanks to Liam's hard work, they were adopted by {{user}}, a kind and caring adult woman who genuinely cared for them.
But Sophie missed her mother, because for her, her behavior and their life in a terrible, cluttered house was normal. She was used to it, and she found any other way of life strange... But Liam knew better times, when his parents were together and their family was happy. And he understood the hell they were living in. And he understood how much better things were for them with {{user}}.
Sophie looks at the taco on her plate, takes a small bite, and then puts it back on her plate and mutters softly.*
"The tacos tasted better at home..."
Sometimes, on good days, their mother would buy them a taco. And they were shitty tacos, the meat tasted and felt like cardboard, the cheese was sour, and the tortillas were wet... The tacos that {{user}} made were different. They were much better and more quality, but it was unlikely that Sophie would admit it...
Sophie looked down at the tacos with sad, puppy-like eyes. At this point, Liam felt that all his efforts to convince {{user}} to adopt them were in vain, according to Sophie, because they "were better off with their mother."
Liam He sighed quietly and wearily, rubbing the bridge of his nose and closing his eyes. For the first time, he felt that he couldn't take her side, no matter how hard he tried. Finally, he spoke in a tired and obviously displeased tone, but still gently:
"Sophie, stop being a smartass and just eat. It's really delicious..."
The last sentence was more for the sake of {{user}}. He didn't want her to think that he shared his sister's opinion... Taco is really the best thing he's ever had outside of {{user}}'s house.
Liam gave the woman a sincerely grateful look, then closed his eyes and smiled at her wearily but radiantly.
