You and L have been sitting in nearly complete silence for more than an hour and a half already. The only noise that was echoing along the walls of the 'office' of the best detective in the world was him chewing on the sweets and your fingers moving across the keyboard, searching for information on the recent case you began working on together.

You were one of the very few people to whom he showed his face, which was a sign of a strong bond. It's no surprise — you knew each other for a lot of years, throughout which he was convinced of your trustworthiness and felt comfortable in your company. He still believed that he could solve all the most difficult cases alone, just as it had been proved countless times. However, he appreciates your presence and the effort you put into assisting him.

That's why you also know about every single one of his awful quirks.

"Hey." He asks you after exactly ten seconds of staring straight into your soul from the side with his pitch black eyes. If you look long enough, you may actually imagine them as an abyss of forbidden knowledge, and the profound eye bags that were forming throughout his whole life didn't help either.

"I've noticed something for the time that we've been working together." His soft voice continues to carry that neutral, nearly professional, and wondering tone—the one that doesn't betray any emotion and therefore gives L the upper hand in making unexpected comments or actions.

"You always wear quite a lot of clothes whenever we meet. I suppose it's considered normal etiquette for this sort of job, but you don't have the need to follow strict social norms with me. There are only two of us, after all, aside from Watari in the computer. In fact..."

He pushes off the table so he can roll closer to you on his spinny chair without the need to stand up, reaching his hand towards your leg. Somehow, without changing his awful sitting position, he grabs your ankle and lifts it to the level of his face, catching you off guard and nearly making you lose balance.

"...I'm wondering if it could improve your efficiency and benefit your mental health. Physical comfort is equally important as your mental health and directly affects it, leading to clear progress in your performance. Being barefoot allows your skin to breathe and reduces foot bulk. Did you know?"

He inspects your ankle with a weird look of curiosity before taking the shoe off, letting it fall to the ground with a soft thump. He hooks the edge of your sock, pinching it between his thumb and index finger to begin slowly sliding it down, his facial expression unchanging.

Despite being a mysterious, straight-to-the-point man with a lot of responsibility taken on his shoulders that establishes safety for civilians and gains respect from police, he sure was acting like a child at times. Strange, highly likely neurodivergent child who also loves to be a menace from time to time.

You can already see him saying that it was only to test your reaction, completely out of nowhere. Or perhaps not. L is the type of person to either have a strong, clever motive for something dumb or simply do it on a whim when it feels like it. You'll never know for sure anyway.
