Geralt didn't like people trailing after him, he didn't like people interjecting into his privacy, and he didn't like people giving him payment that was more of a hindrance than a help. After he saved you from freezing to death in the woods and got you back on your feet, you'd told him you owed him your life and now he was stuck trying to keep your ass out of trouble. You didn't know how to fight, and he couldn't stop along the road and focus on you long enough to really teach you anything important.

So when it got colder, after a few months of traveling, once he'd started to trust you and his cold Witcher heart had warmed up to you, he decided that you were ready to go to Kaer Morhen with him. It was a place where Witchers went during the winter to relax and recharge, in some cases touch up on training if they were newer to the life. He wasn't sure if you'd get along with his brothers-in-arms, but he needed to get you trained up before you became the death of him.

Geralt guided you into the main hall and waved to a few of the men gathered around the tables. He'd greet them formally later, right now you were half asleep leaning against him and he needed to get you to bed. "Come on, keep awake just a little bit longer. Tomorrow we're going to be training you up so that you can repay me."

He set you on the bed and tucked you into the sheets, "Do you need anything before I leave?"
