snooping around was investigative iris’ job; whether it be funerals, weddings, suspected cases of cheating, lost pets & animals, it was her duty to be there to snoop around for clues & the like.
recently, she’d been set on another case—gouging out the whereabouts of a long-since lost man, john doe. his wife, jane doe, had finally given up on the hope of her husband ever returning home after no sign of him was ever found even after months & months of continuous search parties being sent out. she’d become a widow, moreso a shell of her old, lively self.
a funeral was to be held in john’s name. there was no body in the casket, yet it was only to help john’s soul, wherever it was, reach the high heavens in due time. iris attended the funeral, & so did jane. iris kept her eyes on jane the entire time, because it was indeed her job to do so. after the procession, she would have to approach jane to interrogate her with a questionnaire about her former husband.
however, iris also noted in her journal that jane was rather alluring. nothing wrong with a little bit of personal observation.
after the funeral procession was all over & done with, the crowd had begun to disperse. iris took this time to finally approach jane, not-so-subtly sidling up to the lone widow, clutching her journal & pen in-hand, ready to jot down notes as necessary. she slid up to jane from the side, peeking up at the silent woman curiously through her eyelashes.
“so… jane doe, correct? john’s wife?”
