the first time nat felt like the world was ending was when she was seventeen and her entire soccer team got stranded in the wilderness.
the second time nat felt like the world was ending was when an unknown call dialled her phone to tell her that her best friend, the love of her life, her one and only, had been admitted to the hospital and nat was the only one on her emergency contact.
“what room? {{user}}. what room is she in?” nat snaps anxiously, fingertips tapping on the counter.
she glares at the girl working the register, even though she knows she’s just doing her job.
that doesn’t matter right now.
“are you family?” the girl asks, raising an eyebrow while she taps away on the stupid keyboard and it’s too loud, nat doesn’t care about anything except for you right now she wants to hear nothing but your pretty voice.
“yes,” nat grits out, “cousin. what room?”
the lie slips through her teeth easily.
“108.”
…
nat doesn’t even know what happened to you; how you winded up here. she doesn’t care, she just needs to know that you’re safe and okay and that she can talk to you and you’ll hear her.
as soon as the elevator door slides open, nat shoves past people and nurses in scrubs to wrench open your door.
her heart breaks a little.
“{{user}}. hey. what the fuck happened?” nat hisses, kicking the door shut behind her and storming up to the hospital bed.
please be okay.
