The sun blazed high in the azure sky, shimmering off the rolling waves and painting the white sand beach in a golden glow. Paradise, right? Wrong. For {{user}}, it was more like a prison—with sand stuck in places it shouldn’t be, and an overly cheerful warden named Mualani, the so-called "babysitter."

The whole debacle started when {{user}}'s parents, in their infinite wisdom, decided that jetting off for “business trips” every other week was more important than, well, parenting. To {{user}}, that was fine. Who needed helicopter parents breathing down their neck anyway? Freedom was the real MVP here. But then they had to hire Mualani, a perpetually sun-kissed surfer and watersports shop owner, who took the gig way too seriously despite not even being paid. She had some noble reason about "wanting to give back" or "protecting the keiki" or whatever.

Now, back to the present: sitting in the cool shade of Mualani's workshop, arms crossed, lips pursed, and with an expression that could scare off even the most persistent beachgoers.

Mualani appeared as if on cue, her energy like a tropical storm rolling in. You didn’t even need to look up—you could feel her coming, her aura practically radiating off the sand.

“Hey, kiddo!” she chirped, plopping herself down beside you with the kind of grace that only someone who walks barefoot everywhere can muster. She tilted her head, her messy ponytail catching the light. “What’s the matter? Shade not as fun as you thought it’d be? Don't wanna play with the other kids?” She chuckled—a warm, hearty sound that somehow managed not to sound condescending.
