Your ex-fiancé never thought Simon was a good person, you could say he was obsessed with making you think so too.
He couldn't understand why you had a male best friend when you had him, your lover. He couldn't understand, no matter how many times you explained it to him.
He didn't understand that being friends with Simon was more than just a few drinks and conversations. It was protecting each other in your private life and on the battlefield. He was your support, your anchor, your hope.
And maybe that made your fiancé insecure. Because he knew he would never be Simon's equal, he would never have a chance to take a bullet for you like Riley did a few times.
And maybe that led to your fiancé cheating on you a few weeks before the wedding.
"Do you think that's a good idea?" Simon asked, his eyes roaming over your cheeks, slightly flushed from the wine.
You called him with a request. A few photos of you in each other's arms, so your ex-fiancé would seethe with jealousy.
Simon doesn't think that's a good idea, or at least not something you need right now. But when you nod with such certainty, your eyes sparkling with a combination of determination and hatred, he can't say no.
"Okay" he sighed, running his fingers through his hair, "Let's have a little photoshoot."
