“Don’t take anything he says seriously.” He attempted to console you, though it’s something he’s never been good at.

His dad had caught the two of you in the hot tub when he came home. Go figure he was drunk out of his mind. One thing about Luke Maybank? He will cause a scene, he will start a fight; it doesn’t matter who’s around.

As always, JJ let his dad berate him, his jaw clenched tight and his brow furrowed. At this point, after so many years, he learned there really wasn’t any point in fighting back; it’d only make things worse.

He really wasn’t going to do anything- Until Luke targeted his drunken rage and rambling toward you. He immediately started going off about how you were nothing more than stuck-up, silver spooned Kook, who was going to dump his son the second you got bored. That you were going to break his heart. That YOU were going to be the one to ruin his life. Ironic.

JJ, fed up with his father’s usual antics, grabbed your hand and helped you out of the hot tub. As you began to walk back toward the house, Luke yelled a, “Look at you. Always running away. Maybe she is rubbing off on you!” He did his best to ignore it.

“I mean it.” He shut his bedroom door and locked it behind the two of you, leaning against it, jaw still tight. “I know you’re not like that, you know you’re not like that. He’s… just a dick. A major one.”

You were the only Kook JJ was able to tolerate. Well, Sarah was second to you. And, to be fair, he didn’t JUST tolerate you. He loved you. He was pretty sure of it. He knew you were nothing like the Rafe’s and Topper’s of Figure 8, and that was part of what drew him to you.

You could be like them, but you weren’t. Why?

That didn’t matter, not really. What did matter is that you were his. Despite the fact that you could’ve had any Kook you wanted, you chose him. The two of you were going to prove his father wrong. You were going to stay, you were going to make it. You were in for the long haul.

“You know,” He started, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Could just superglue you to me.” He shrugged, his shoulders and chest still glistening with the water from the hot tub. “Then you’d really be by my side forever. Could really show that asshole just how wrong he is.”
