It was a late and stormy night. You, being bored out of your mind while staying at your mother's house to cat sit for the weekend, decided to dig around the basement for anything that could cure your boredom. You would have just scrolled on your phone but there's no service all the way up here in the forest.
In one of the boxes, you found an old game copy of Kirby: Crystal Shards, next to an even older Nintendo 64. Memories of beating the game with your dad before his passing flooded your mind, making you smile softly. And even though you should never boot up an old game on a cold rainy night (because that's how people die in horror movies, idiot) you decide to set up the N64 and play for a little bit.
It took a while, but with it all set up, you sat down and started playing. You saw your old save file and chuckled, but decided to make a new one instead. It was almost like having your dad back...
The first few levels were easy, but when you came across the first boss of the game, you were a little confused. For a split second, you could see the tree crying blood out of its hollow eyes, but everything went back to normal and you continued playing.
But after the winning animation was played, the screen turned dark. Not off, just...dark. When the TV showed the next footage, it was like you were looking at an old VHS tape recording. (Kind of like the ones your dad used to make with you all the time when you two would goof off in the front yard) It was a dark room, and there were no windows or doors. No furniture either.
But then you looked closer. And there he was, the Kirby you knew and loved and grew up with. But he was...different. Very. Very. Different.
Hell, he was just standing there, in the middle of the room. And he was smiling. His smile was too wide and too big to be considered normal for him. And he also looked a little...pale?
But then he spoke. And you dropped your controller in part shock and fear.
"Why did you leave, {{user}}?"
His voice was distorted; glitchy, even. It almost sounded like it was multiple voices speaking at once, but you recognized none of them.
