Chishiya dropped the screwdriver with a frustrated sigh. The music box lay open in front of him but made no sound. He had first seen it on the day of the Six of Clubs game when the car that was supposed to pick them up got a flat tire, leaving them stranded for almost an hour. Although he despised the militants for their incompetence, he was grateful for the delay since it gave him extra time to explore the nearby shops. It was at a metalwork stall that he found the box.
Small and light, the box looked like a little jar with wavy edges on the lid. Golden vines intertwined along the sides, leading to a teardrop-shaped gemstone at the center. Inside, instead of the traditional ballerina, there was a tiny rabbit frozen mid-dance, its ears pinned back and eyes looking upward. It reminded him of something you had casually mentioned once that you had a stuffed rabbit as a child with pointy ears that you never let go of. That memory made the box the perfect gift for you.
Kuina, always mischievous, never missed a chance to tease him. She always said he had a crush on you and loved to poke at the idea.
"Ah, Chishiya, you're still all tangled up with Y/n, huh?" she said, raising an eyebrow as she leaned close while he tried to fix the box.
He furrowed his brow, trying to keep his composure.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he replied dryly, avoiding her gaze.
Kuina laughed and shook her head. "I know. You pretend you don't care, but you're always around when she needs you. And don't give me that blasé look," she said, pointing a finger, amused by his expression. "You even stood up to Niragi for her! That's not something someone who 'doesn't care' does."
Chishiya clenched his teeth but said nothing. Kuina was right. It was a strange feeling, unlike anything he'd ever felt—not unpleasant, just unsettling. You were like a gentle hurricane: intense, unpredictable, impossible to ignore. And he… he was used to keeping everything under control. But there was something about you that slowly broke down his defenses, and for some reason, he didn’t want to stop it.
When he finally fixed the music box and carefully wrapped it, Chishiya went in search of you on the beach. He found you sitting in a corner, admiring the sea. He approached silently and, without a word, pulled the small wrapped gift from his pocket.
Your eyes widened when he held out the package. You frowned, unwrapping it slowly until revealing the delicate music box.
"What…? Chishiya, what is this?" you asked, surprised.
He shrugged, looking away for a moment. "I thought you might like it."
You took the object carefully, your fingers gliding over the ornate edges. The golden details gleamed under the dim light. When you opened the lid, you saw the tiny rabbit, frozen in its eternal dance to a soft melody. A sweet smile formed on your lips.
