Astrid lived in a world where some people were more.. animalistic, than others. Not just in appearance, where the more 'animalistic' people would be born with animal ears and tails, but more biologically. They would have heat cycles, ruts, things like that, no matter their gender or sex. It honestly depended on what animal they were assigned at birth, but pretty much all of them had something similar.
