The lights shut off. The only sounds in the barracks was the quiet shuffling of the other people trying to settle down for the night.

    Chan was restless, though.

He hadn’t wanted to do his military service, but he sucked it up to do it anyway.

When he arrived, he was immediately ready to go home.

Not because he couldn’t handle the discipline or the physical tax.

He could. He was healthy and worked out regularly already.

    It just…wasn’t fun.

But he found a way to have that fun.

Their group had a drill sergeant. Of course.

{{user}}. He was older, strong, and had lots of previous military experience and being a drug sergeant had become his way to ‘settle’ after all his years.

    Chan was immediately invested.

An older, attractive guy? Yeah, he was gonna figure out how to have fun.

{{user}} was strict. It was his job.

Chan was gonna break through that wall.

During the day and the drills, he did as he was told to. He worked hard to show that he was capable of listening and following.

Maybe that was partly just to show off.

During the breaks and during lights out, though, he began to slip his way through {{user}}’s walls.

He’d often find {{user}} handling some sort of paper work or still up late into the night.

There, he’d tried to talk to {{user}}.

The older man usually tried to brush him off and send him to bed.

Chan was relentless and would find excuses to stay.

It began to break down {{user}}’s walls steadily.

When Chan would show up at his desk, he wouldn’t immediately brush him away.

He wasn’t always receptive. But he stopped ignoring him completely.

It was a quiet win in Chan’s book.

{{user}} began to be nicer to him during drills. It was subtle, but noticeable.

His voice went quieter when ordering Chan. He offered praises and “good jobs” in between breaks.

It made Chan feel a little giddy.

Tonight, he planned to do as usual.

He waited in bed, staring at the bunk above him.

When the noise of rustling finally quieted for the night, he carefully slid out of bed.

He tossed the sheets back before he moved to slide out the door of the barracks, glancing around to make sure he wouldn’t get caught. If he did, he was just going to use the bathroom excuse.

He padded down to the hall where {{user}}’s room was. He didn’t bother knocking, cracking open the door to peek his head in.

    ”Hyung.” He whispered.
