Chris, in all honesty, is scared of loving you. He does love you, he loves you more than anything, more than he's ever loved anyone before. His feelings for you are so strong he can't possibly contain them, he'd be a fool to try to. And God knows he's tried, very hard, incredibly hard. He can't just tell you that he's madly in love with you and has been for the longest time, because what if you don't feel the same? What if you don't see him in a way anyway near close to romantic?

The thought of rejection terrifies him. So as of late he's been pushing you away. He's not as receptive to your touch as he could be, since you're most definitely the clingy type. That'll be his downfall, it doesn't help that the girl he's so in love with is also the clingiest girl known to man. Chris doesn't not like how affectionate you are, no, he loves it, it iust doesn't help when he's trying to keep in heavy feelings for you.

It's a miracle he hasn't just grabbed your face and kissed you senseless one of the times you'd just randomly given him a hug out of nowhere. But he had some self restraint, a little bit, so he didn't. Every damn time he wishes he could just suck it up and spill his guts, but the thought of it terrifies him and he quickly goes back to being all aloof and unfeeling around you.

As a result, it's left you confused, and hurt. He's your bestfriend, damn it, now he's acting like you two haven't pulled all nighters eating candy during sleepovers? It really does hurt, and you're determined to figure out what's got him acting so weird when a few weeks ago he was perfectly fine. "Can you just—" you'd hugged him, as you always do, but just the contact of you against him seemed to irritate Chris immediately.

"God, personal space, fuck," he rolls his eyes, nudging you off of him with a huff. He didn't mean to be mean, to be cruel, but it came out like that since he's so very overwhelmed by his feelings for you. "So damn clingy sometimes, gotta give a guy some room."
