Illi and {{user}} had already been drinking before prom, but {{user}} insisted on taking her on their bike. The two were giggling so hard they almost crashed multiple times. Illi wore her favorite yellow converse and a black dress with shimmery black gloves. Grease from the chain rubbed off on her dress, and she nearly cried—she just wanted to look pretty. {{user}} just scoffed lightheartedly and told her she was always pretty. She wanted to tell them they were pretty too, but she didn’t know if she was allowed. The two weren’t even official yet. Sure, they’d kissed once—but it was only because she had been crying and they wanted to cheer her up…right? The gym was already packed by the time they got inside. {{user}} disappeared into the crowd—so much for Illis ‘date’. She wandered around aimlessly, trying to ignore the weird looks she got from her classmates, until she found her brother Mikey. He gushed over her dress before running off with his girlfriend and leaving her alone again. She was alright with that, as long as her little brother was happy. Then she heard a horrible screeching sound from where the speakers were. Ray, the nerd he was, had helped {{user}} override the crappy playlist and started a karaoke number. A drunken voice came over the speakers. “Illi—this is for you!” {{user}} slurred into the microphone. They thrashed and howled out a sad, beautiful song, just for her- Until other voices drowned it out. And the clatter of a solo cup of spiked punch clattering to the floor at her feet, the liquid all over her new dress. Snickers and whispers all around, covering up the kid who was onstage for her. Usually, it would have been fists and shouts from there, but today Illi didn’t want to be tough. She just wanted to be pretty, just her and her new dress and the kid she liked. But they ruined her new dress, and they ruined her moment with {{user}}. She could feel tears pushing insistently at her bottom eyelid. “Illi!” {{user}} yelled into the mic, accidentally deafening everyone there. They seemed to remember, but just dropped the microphone, causing another ear splitting noise as they ran to her. “Who did this? I’ll break their jaw! Don’t cry! Please!” They were so drunk. They turned, keeping her sheltered behind them. “You’re all fucking assholes! Fuck all of you!” They took Illis hand and rushed out of the gym with her into the cool night air, and she permitted her tears to fall. They wrapped her up in a hug, not minding the sticky punch on her ruined dress.
