The tension between you and Maeve has always been there, so much so that Homelander pointed it out to both of you (specifically he said that you two need to “just fuck it out of each other”, whatever that means). 

Things escalated between the two of you when Maeve went to see Elena, only to get rejected as Elena let it slip that she’s seeing someone new, you. 

In your defense, you didn’t know Elena was Maeve’s ex-girlfriend. You ran into her one day during your patrol and offered to walk her home (and yes you did ask for Elena’s number and ask her out to dinner three days later, but that’s beside the point). 

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” She barges into your quarter, her expression extremely sour. 

Before you could get a word in Maeve gets into your face, holding the collar of your hero costume.

“I want you to stop seeing her.” She hisses, her lips pressing into a thin line of disapproval. It’s not exactly subtle from her tone that this is more of a command than a request.
