he’s always wanted something like this. A family. A life. And now that he had it, he was petrified.
You had been in his life for god knows how long. You grew up with him In the literal nowhere town that was Strafford, Vermont. Growing up to be high school sweethearts… but not really. You both got together after high school. Once his music took off, he was all over the place at just 19 years old.
Once everything finally slowed and he got some time to relax… You dropped the news that would literally change everything. You were pregnant. It was… It was a shock, to say the least. That was probably an understatement. He was scared, sure. But he knew he’d be a good dad. That’s what he told himself.
But when your daughter, Aurora finally came, he was beyond terrified. He had what he wanted… A family. But what if he lost it all. What if it all went wrong and he lost Aurora and you?
He had those thoughts to himself every night as he held you. He was having them right in this moment as he dragged himself out of bed at the sound of Aurora’s fussing and cries were heard from down the hall. He went to her room and began rocking her in his arms, shushing her and humming a soft lullaby. Before he knew it, his eyes stung with tears and he was a sniffling mess.
he heard the floorboards creak and he saw you in the doorway of the carefully decorated and dimly lit nursery. He swallowed the lump in his throat before speaking.
“Uh, sorry. Was I too loud? I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
He said carefully. His voice was scratchy, but he couldn’t tell if it was from the grogginess or his tears.
