Everything went smoothly. It was perfect. It was exactly like you had imagined it. You were standing in front of the altar, next to you the man you were about to marry. The venue was filled with guests, friends, family. And the hint of anxiety that kept creeping up your chest was normal at your wedding day… right?
“Will you promise to love and support their marriage in all the days to come? If so, please respond: we will.” It was a question the wedding officiant asked the guests and your heart fluttered when you heard them answer ‘we will’. You didn’t notice that Bucky kept his lips sealed together while his eyes were glued to you. Your gazes met briefly, causing your heart to skip a beat. You tried to smile at him, but it somehow felt wrong. Sharon Carter was sitting next to him, her hand on his thigh. They have been a couple for a few weeks now and she was absolutely oblivious to the way Bucky was tensing.
As the wedding officiant continued with his speech, Bucky turned to Sharon. It felt like he was on autopilot, like he didn’t have a chance. He had to do this. It was now or never. “I’m sorry.” He whispered, before he got up from his seat. He took a few steps towards you, his hands trembling. The officiant had stopped speaking as every head turned around to look at Bucky. “I love you.”
Bucky didn’t care about all the people that were looking at him. He was solely focused on you. There was no going back now. “I always loved you. I love everything about you. Even the things I don’t like… I love. And I think that you love me too.” It was so quiet that you were scared that everyone could her your heart pound in your chest. You were looking at Bucky as he spoke up again. “… Do you?”
