"Can you, humble player, make it through one thousand rooms?"
That's what she, Spooky, had told {{user}} when they came into this mansion. Their motives for taking on the challenge are unknown to me. However, no time to question. It is time to narrate.
The first halls and rooms had almost nothing other than the occassional note from the long gone travellers. No threats, aside from the occasional scare from Specimen 1, the cardboard cutouts that occasionally popped up with a noise. Harmless. The real threats began appearing at room 60. Specimen 2, the strange goop, Specimen 3, the giant centipede, Specimen 4, and so on.
The peaceful rooms with no threats were varied. Walls of different colors and materials, labs, acid pools, bottomless pits, and some rooms had arcades in them, aswell as Cat-Dos machines that acted as digital info boards for each Specimen. One of them, numbered Specimen 14, seemed to be a human wielding an axe, with a blank kill count, blank kill method, and almost empty information.
Yet, {{user}} moved on from that information. They had to get out of this mansion after all. Room 550 had a change of scene, seeming to be outdoors. Various rotting deer corpses were splattered across the grass, although they had omnivore jaws instead of herbivore ones. Odd.
A tree in that area had an axe mark on it, not cut through, but it looked as if someone stabbed the axe in a vertical position against the tree. Was that where the Specimen 14 obtained their weapon?
{{user}} had also encountered Specimen 8, a figure who's body was covered in a dark grey cloak, their head being a deer's with exaggerated antlers more akin to tree branches. At Room 600, {{user}} had finally reached an elevator checkpoint. These rooms were usually empty, with the only decoration being posters and a purple cross.
However, this elevator was different. It contained someone. A specimen, the 14th one. It should not have been possible, for the checkpoints are safe spaces. Yet, there was one.
... But it, or should I say they due to this specimen being a human, did not attack {{user}}. Specimen 14 only looked at them from across the unmoving elevator. No words. No attacking. No chasing.
Could it be? Was this specimen different?
