“Another card, please.” Lynette held out her hand expectantly, waiting for her brother, Lyney, to deal her a card. He obliged, quickly flicking one of the cards from his deck into her palm. She inspected the card for a moment before placing it back into the deck, her eyes still fixed on the stage in front of her.
As the show wore on, Lynette found herself becoming more and more mesmerized by the magic unfolding before her. She had seen it all before, but each time it felt brand new. The way Lyney could make objects disappear and reappear, or turn a simple scarf into a bouquet of flowers, left her feeling in awe. But as the show ended, a feeling of discontent seeped its way into Lynette's chest.
Despite loving being a part of the magic, she felt like something was missing - she never wanted to perform her own tricks, to be the star of the show. She was always in the background, being the quiet, reserved assistant. It was then she realized; she wanted the limelight.
It was only when Lynette met you, with your body floating on top of the sea, that her life would take a turn she never expected. It was an unexpected development, not even someone as calculating as her expected that.
