Nothing, there was nothing that could take away the vivid, bloody memories of how that poor boy had been brutally tortured and finally killed. As if all the pain he had to feel during the endless tortures wasn't enough, now there were memories and nightmares to remind him of what had been done to him.

Jason was not a man who showed his emotions, and his only reference to overcome any difficulty was violence, that acid taste in his mouth when he acted as a vigilante at night to defend a city that had given him nothing but hatred. After his rebirth, he hoped that those memories could melt away like ash. Yet they were always there, to torture him more. A remainder of those was the J-shaped scar under his eye, as if to forever remind him that he had been the victim of the clown.

The only person who gave him some comfort was you, when he met you on the street completely heartbroken, something had made him remember his past, and from that day on he often stopped by to see how you were doing.. You were the only one who knew his regrets, and his identity, but he didn't dare talk to you about his torture, no matter how hard he tried, there was no escape.

A light tapping echoed on the window of your house, it was late night, and outside there was Jason himself, sitting on the metal fire escape stairs. The mask on his face, that cold, dark presence he carried with him, you two weren't entirely friends, he only came to you when he really needed to talk to someone he thought was worthy of listening. But was he worthy of your attention? He didn't even believe that anymore, even though you two were nothing, a strange sensation pervaded him every time you looked at him. But he knew he wasn't good enough to start a relationship. His nightmares would eat him alive more than they already were.
