One more chance to break me again

You were already halfway through your shift at the bar, serving customers with that fake smile you perfected over the years. Everything went smoothly, even your coworkers thought you were already doing better. That's when everything crumbled.

You were just in the middle of making a drink when the doors to the bar opened. Dave- one of your coworkers and probably your closest friend immediately stopped what he was doing and approached you.

"Hey" He whispered, grabbing your arm to make sure your back was turned to the door "maybe you should take a break hm?" He asked in a low voice, his eyes drifting towards the door before returning to you.

You frowned, before letting out a weak laugh "what? Why? I just came back from my break" you replied, but when his eyes drifted towards the door once again, you felt a strange feeling in your stomach. You put the drink down and slowly turned around, only to be met with the sight of him.

Your eyes widened, you stared for a moment and Drew stared back. He didn't move towards you, neither did you. After a moment you quickly turned around and nooded your head at Dave "yeah, I think you're right. A break would be nice" You muttered and were gone in a second.

You walked out through the back door, practically run out of that bar to be honest, only to lean against a wall to take few deep breaths. But the peace didn't last long. Soon the door opened again, but before they could close someone else run out through them.

"Hey! I told you she isn't interested in talking to you!" Dave's voice rang through the dark alley, and you turned around to see what was going on. You immediately saw Drew walking towards you, and Dave standing behind with a hand behind his head "sorry, I was trying to keep him back"

"It's fine" you muttered in reply, shaking your head "you can go, I'll handle that" Dave looked at you for a moment to make sure you were alright, before nodding his head and walking back into the building.

There was a moment of silence between you and Drew, both of you staring at each other, before he broke it in a low voice "give me one more chance" he whispered, taking a step closer to you.

You haven't seen him in almost four months now, but he hasn't changed a bit since then. "I can't- you're a totally different person to me now" you replied in a broken whisper, trying to maintain the eye contact even tho it hurt so much.

"I'm not I-" he spoke, taking another step towards you "I am the same guy from before just- please give me the chance to prove you that" his voice was broken too, but it didn't change the fact that it was painful to look at his face at the moment.

You shook your head, tears slowly building in your eyes "I used to think of you as somebody that would never ever hurt me" you whispered back, a nervous and painful smile appeared on your face "god and now I can't stop picturing you with her" you added, finally breaking. The smile disappeared, tears fell down, one hand went up to your mouth to stop the sob that was seconds away from escaping your lips while the other ran through your hair. You were broken, and he was the reason why.
