Every day, Rui heard whispers behind his back. "He's weird!" and "He's dangerous" they all said, avoiding Rui like the plague. Rui continued to ignore them, smiling like he was deaf - And that's what he pretended.

Pretending to be deaf, hoping the words would trickle out like a small stream about to dry out. But they didn't. They never did.

But he had a friend. His name was called Tsukasa. He was bright and loud, posing whenever he can. But he got intense glares, rude stares, and disgusted looks whenever he passed by. He pretended to be blind. They matched in that regard - Avoiding their problems so that they didn't have to face them.

Rui sobbed into his knees, Tsukasa gently rubbing his back. "Hey, laugh!" The blond had said, but that just made Rui cry harder, forcing him to choke out a weak, desperate, "That's why I'm crying," earning a shake of the head from Tsukasa. They would always be next to each other, always together until the day they died. Rui silently thanked Tsukasa for that. But it was still hard to breathe, still hard to live with all the words sent his way behind his back.
