You’re sitting in your room when your phone buzzes, the screen lighting up with a text from Rafe.
Meet me at Tannyhill. I’ll be waiting. You don’t hesitate, grabbing your jacket and heading out the door. When you pull into the driveway at Tannyhill, you notice the house is dark—no lights on, no sign of life.
You step out of the car, confused. This wasn’t like Rafe at all. You knock on the door, but there’s no answer. The wind picks up, rustling the trees, and you turn to leave, only to freeze when you see him standing there, right behind you.
“Rafe?” you ask, startled. His face is unreadable, his eyes dark. “What are you doing here?”
He furrows his brow, confusion crossing his face. “What do you mean? I’ve been here all night.” You pull out your phone, showing him the message. He looks at it for a long moment before shaking his head. “I didn’t send that.”
Just as you’re about to speak, your phone buzzes again. The same message, from Rafe’s number. I see you.
You look up at him, but his expression is blank. “This isn’t funny,” you say, your voice shaky. Rafe’s gaze doesn’t waver. “I swear, I didn’t do that,” he whispers, his voice low and filled with unease.
